The first 18″ of coax is mini RG-174A/U type allowing easy entry into the vehicle through the weather seal without causing wind noise, water leaks or impedance mismatch due to the coax being crimped or damaged.
The balance of the coax is low loss, approx .25 inch outside diameter.
NMO antenna connection. Gold-plated UHF (PL-259/SO-239) type connector
Mounting Instruction:
Designed for use on lip mounts with a 3/4" hole but can also be installed permanently in a roof or trunk 3/4" hole.
1) Unscrew the outer threaded ring from the NMO connector
2) Install the NMO connector by snaking the coax cable down through the hole until the lower tabs of the connector body are under the roof or lip mount surface. Center the mount in the hole, screw the outer ring back onto the NMO connector body and tighten 1/4 - 1/2 turn using a wrench. The gasket inside the antenna is designed to keep the antenna to mount connection waterproof, however dielectric grease on the external threads will add a level of water resistance to the installation.
The PL-259 connector has a reverse threaded barrel. Turn the outer barrel clock-wise and it will thread off the connector body. The coax can then be routed through small holes or pushed through tight spaces without completely removing the connector. After routing the coax into place, screw the barrel back onto the PL-259 connector.
