FAQ

What is a 10 meter radio?

10 meter radios operate between 28 MHz - 29 MHz. The name 10 Meters refers to the to wavelength of the average frequency. Meaning if you could actually see radio waves, 10 meter radio transmissions would appear to be 10 meters - or 30 feet long from peak to peak. The reason 10 meter radios are mentioned is because it is the radio band right next to CB radio. CB's operate on 11 meters. Both bands offer different radios with different levels of performance.

How far can a 10 meter radio transmit?

10 meter radios offer exceptional range due to their location in the HF radio band - which is perfectly suited for long-range - or SKIP - propagation. With a technician class license or better, you will have significantly better power output versus the next closest 11 meter band. Most vehicle to vehicle distance will offer an average of 5-15 miles range. Like with any HF radio this range is very much dependent your antenna setup.

What is the difference between a 10 meter radio and a CB radio?

10 meter radios offer significantly better performance and features, but require an FCC license to operate. CB radios can be used by anyone without a license, but are restricted to 40 channels and only 4 watts.

Can you use a 10 meter radio as a CB?

Many radios can be modified to operate outside of their designed parameters. However, transmitting on a frequency you do not have access to means violating FCC rules and regulations which may result in a fine.
