Reliability, performance
Still using an Antron 99 bought new in the late seventies. Using a lay-down mast setup, we even got great performance on our boat on Lake Huron. Like the old Shakespeare Big Stik, the 99 just works. Only maintenance has been a light polishing with some bronze wool every few years to clean up a little corrosion. BTW: Yes, Virginia, you can mount two 99's front & rear on a full-size GMC van & call it a mobile beam! Buy a good antenna, trust your SWR meter, take time to dial-in your setup right & you're all set!

good wireing, low standing wave
I live in Arizona and in the summer the wind blows up to 90 miles per hour and more in a burst.this called a moon-soon am
and last for about 3-months and my Antron antenna holds right up to the winds, so far over 15 years now and still up. and can talk just about talk anywhere, buy one and use it you will not be sorry.

I purchased the A99 and have used it for 1 week now, amazing results. The antenna was mounted on the back porch on a 5 ft metal pole. I was not expecting anything spectacular..but to my surprise my first radio check was over 8.5 miles away as a crow flys to a mobile unit. Several other radio checks of equal distances was easy to obtain. After a few days I switched over to SSB 38 LSB and made numerous contacts in Oklahoma, Arizona and Mississppi...
SWR meter checks is 1.0 :1 on all channels, the tuning rings were already preset for 11 meter band, this is an amazing antenna I would highly recommend. I will be raising it higher in the near future.
Walcott radio service was great, recieved it fast, ordered on Friday by Monday it was here...Many thank Walcott Radio...Great job...

Back 25 yrs ago I had a single Antron 99 mounted on a twelve ft pole on top of a 3 story apt building. I used a cobra 148gtl that I bought new and had a guy I knew tune it for me. I remember the first time I played with it, I keyed up on a regular channel trying to determine my effective range for talking around Tulsa, Ok, where I lived. A guy responded and said I was booming in on his mobile radio shack uniden radio and a 102" whip antenna out south of town. I was excited since he said I was "booming" in on him and he sounded good on my end too. I asked him like 3 or 4 times to tell me whereabouts south of Tulsa he was, but nothing he said sounded familiar. Eventually we figured out that he was indeed south of the city, but it wasnt MY city. He was 900+ miles away just outside of Detroit, MI. On channel 16 he said I sounded like I was parked next to him...pegging his meter. Well, altho I didnt have that kinda luck every day, it wasn't a rarity either. Whether I was on a standard channel or side band, that Antron helped me visit with people all over the world. I am thinking of getting back into the radio biz again. If I do, needless to say, THIS is the antenna and radio I'm getting. I lost track of how many cities over the years I was able to reach while skipping the atmosphere on side band at night. I had a good radio, and no doubt it helped me, but I am fully convinced that...like a photographer invests his money into good glass, a wise CB'r invests his money into a great antenna and quality cabling. I chatted with an expat in Israel one evening. He had the exact same setup that I did, and had the same results I did. We were able to visit on and off many times, and we both were crystal clear. I've heard that some people get two A99's and mount them in tandem on a rotating bracket they can aim like beams, but I never felt the need for that kind of upgrade.

I live in an apartment complex so......I\'m not allowed to permanently mount this monster to our roof. I came up with a pretty good fix where I can take the A99 in and out at my leisure......and mount it on our deck rail using the 5 foot mast. The top of the antenna ends up about 5 or 6 feet above the roof line. I realize that this is not good for maximum performance but..........somehow, on my first try, I ended up talking to someone 12 miles to my north. And just a side note: My north is the side where my apartment is blocking the base of the antenna! Now I can\'t wait to purchase a dx radio for this sucker to see just how far out we can reach & receive. Thanks guys for a great antenna.

This is an outstanding base antenna. Out of the box SWR 1:2 and I reach out and touch folks. I have my A99 on top of a 35 foot mast and my first contact, asking for a radio check, was another base station at exit 668 on IH-10. Considering I live around exit 601 on IH-10 and I was talking on a mobile, COBRA 29 tuned and dead keys at 12W, Talk? O-yes it does. I

Take his 42.6 miles and times it by 5, and that is the average I can talk. It's one of the best skip shooting antennas I have come across also. Over all, I would rate the 99 right at the top with all omni-directional antennas without breaking the bank. If the rating went to 10, I would have to rate it a 12. Excellent antenna. I can't begin to say enough good about it. I put mine up right from the box on a 30 foot mast and I didn't even have to touch the tunning rings. SWR was right at 1.1. We had a severe storm here a couple weeks ago. 73 mph winds. It didn't even phase the A99. Excellent antenna. You can't go wrong.

GREAT ANTENNA! I've had mine A99 for about 4 months now and it's one of the best ones have ever had.
I've got mine up 28 feet up in the air from the coax connector and I get about 30 to 40 miles (depending on the mountains & hills), It has about 3.3 dB gain and easy to use SWR rings you can adjust. NOTE: if you keep the rings turned all the way down you will have about 1.1 to 1.2 SWR. remember, the lower the SWR the better you will sound and be louder. To much SWR will destroy your radio and this antenna has the easy way to get you standing wave down, That's Good!!

It's a good antenna for the base antenna but does not perform more than 42.6 miles
