FM Mode CBs
AM and FM are radio modes, or in very simple terms methods for encoding information in a radio wave. Radio modes tend to be AM, FM, SSB, and CW. CBs are all AM, sometimes SSB, and now increasingly FM as well. In 2021 the FCC allowed the CB radio band to include FM as a possible mode. This was already common practice in Europe prior to this FCC rule change.
Why should I care?
It boils down to having more options on your CB. AM is still going to be the standard, but now with FM you have the option for better, clearer audio when talking and listening. Choose whatever mode you think fits the situation.
